AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVIES

Term 1 (Degerloch Campus) starts on September 6 and all After School Activities are offered in person unless current regulations change.

The After School Activities Program (ASAP) is designed to offer students at all skill levels the opportunity to try out a variety of activities. They encourage teamwork, contribute to self-confidence, and may help uncover an interest that could last a lifetime. Programs vary each semester. The mission of the ASAP is to provide quality training in a variety of well-structured activities to further the development of a healthy mind, body and attitude as well as to practice and develop specific skills needed to be successful in hobbies and activities of interest. This program is available for Degerloch students.

KID'S KITCHEN

The early development of kitchen skills essential to all who want to embark on a cooking experience! We will be cutting, measuring, mixing and assembling different food to make a special treat to eat at every class. The students will experience lots of hands-on and self-initiated team participation. We will combine different ingredients and bake, fry or sauté them and learn to work in teams making the cooking experience a great group effort. Due to the health concerns facing children with allergies, please be advised that the children with a nut allergy or gluten difficulties should not apply to the cooking classes. – Ms Strobel

PLAYING IN GERMAN

Welcome to Playing in German. In this after school activity we will be actively engaged in learning German through hands on activities, songs, books, rhymes… Enjoy this immersion into the German culture. – Ms Sanchez

JUNIOR ORCHESTRA

We are looking for junior students who play percussion, brass, woodwinds, keyboards and strings to come and join our group. An ability to read simple music parts is essential. With a focus on playing fun music together in a friendly ensemble, students also gain experience and develop on their instruments, allowing them to participate in school performances and AMIS festivals. Students must have current or previous private tutor lessons on their instrument. – Ms Reed

ROBOTICS

Students will learn to build their own wrestling robots! They will be exploring the mechanical principles of robotics as they work in small teams to design and build Sumo wrestling robots. They will be using LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robots. After they perfect their designs and program their robots to use touch, light/color and ultrasonic sensors they will get the chance to challenge other ISS teams in the ring. – Ms Karnatz

INVENTOR'S SOCIETY

What do you dream of inventing? We will work on building projects that are the students’ ideas. Trying to make something work from scratch and occasionally build pre-tested projects. Projects may include models of vehicles, toys, gadgets or anything you else you think of! So come and join our society! – Ms McMillan

ARTS & CRAFTS

By using stories, drawing books and their own creativity, this club will allow children to have fun and improve their drawing skills. We will explore a wide range of themes such as 3D modeling, comic, shapes, animals, emotions and perspective drawing. We will also occasionally make some paper-based crafts. – Ms Sanchez & Ms Doster

TYPEWRITING

Learn to type faster than you can run! Join this exciting activity to learn how to type without even looking at your hands. Learning this important skill will help you get your homework done faster! – Ms Kalb

ELECTRONICS CLUB

Are you interested in solar/wind/water energy, motor control, space communications, metal detectors, computers, telecommunications or power generation & transmission? Our group will work with electronics ‘breadboards’ where you can build your own circuits, program your own microprocessors, learn to bias a transistor, use capacitors as energy storage or DC-isolation, build & control your own ‘stepper motor’. You will select your projects yourself, once you have mastered a few basic skills. – Ms McMillan
